Clinical Externs will be working in the capacity as an unregulated health care provider (UCP). They will work in collaboration with the healthcare team under the supervision of an appointed regulated healthcare professional. Clinical Externs will have varying levels of knowledge, skills and judgement, based on their education level and past experience. THP will provide an autonomous yet supervised environment for externs to develop their clinical skills, knowledge, and confidence as they transition into a registered role upon completion of their studies.
Key Qualifications
Enrolled in either of the fields of study listed below:
Paramedic Extern
Paramedic students in second year of an approved Paramedic Program.
Physiotherapy Extern
Physiotherapy students in any year of study of a training program accredited by Physiotherapy Education Accreditation Canada (PEAC).
Occupational Therapy Extern
Occupational therapy students in any year of study in a training program accredited by the Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists (CAOT).
Respiratory Therapy Extern
Respiratory Therapy students in their second and third year of a training program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Respiratory Therapy Education, which is administered by the Canadian Society of Respiratory Therapists.
Undergraduate Medicine Extern
Undergraduate medical students in their final year of a program of medical education leading to the MD degree that has been accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS).
Recent Medical Graduates
Recent graduates from a program of medical education leading to the MD degree that has been accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) and who are awaiting the start of an accredited residency program.
