Position Summary:

 

The Occupational Health Nurse is a highly valued member of the People Health team who supports the body, mind and spirit of our Health Human Resource (HHR) through occupational health and safety programs, disease prevention and clinical care.  Building programing that supports the body, mind and spirit of our HHR through occupational health and safety programs, disease prevention and clinical care. This role is responsible for the delivery of proactively managing and delivering occupational health services and programs; ensuring compliance with legislation; primary care and health assessment; immunization programs; workplace injury and accommodations, health surveillance and education. 

 

As a member of a dynamic interdisciplinary team of professionals, your expertise in this field will enable you act as a coach and mentor to leadership and staff regarding workplace health related issues. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Support a healthy, respectful, inclusive and safe environment for all individuals at THP;
  • Support HHR with short-term absences;
  • Provide support to injured and absent HHR through a clinical assessment and determining readiness to return to work;
  • Collaborate with leadership and HHR in the development of modified work plans;
  • Work collaboratively with all key partners including staff, human resources, leadership, union partners, people safety, people wellbeing relevant health care professionals
  • Provide health intake, assessment and support for illness and injury reporting
  • Provide primary care to workers with occupational/non-occupational illnesses and injuries; first aid and/or referral to appropriate medical intervention
  • Complete health assessments and ensure compliance with all legislation including the  Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
  • Manage and implement THP surveillance program ensuring compliance with all legislation, policies, procedures and practice guidance; Educate and offer employees post exposure prophylaxis and/or immunization to protect them from communicable diseases
  • Managing outbreaks of communicable illness;
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation of health records and statistical data
  • Maintain and respect confidentiality of health records and information
  • Liaise with government agencies, service providers, health care professionals management, and employees to ensure optimal recovery, regulatory compliance and an early and safe return to work
  • Encourage, identify and integrate preventative measures to support the mind, body and spirit
  • Facilitate and deliver preventative education Participates in the development and evaluation of education materials
  • Participates in continued learning opportunities

 

 

Key Qualifications:

 

THP is committed to internal talent, and therefore priority will be given to internal applicants.

  • Registered Nurse, in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing with expectation to obtain certification in Occupational Health Nursing Canada  (COHN(C)) within 2 years
  • Member of Ontario Occupational Health Nurses Association an asset
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as an Registered Nurse
  • Experience with conducting health assessments over the phone or telehealth an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation including the Human Rights Code, Occupational Health & Safety Act, Public Hospitals Act and AODA
  • Understanding of Public Health Ontario, Ministry of Health, and surveillance protocols related to communicable diseases
  • Demonstrated ability to drive a positive experience through professionalism, positive attitude and strong work ethic
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to interact professionally with culturally diverse individuals during a time of crisis and distress
  • Demonstration ability to show empathy and compassion
  • Excellent organizational and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability for critical thinking and sound judgment required
  • Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism
  • Manages priorities effectively
  • Experience in program planning, implementation and evaluation
  • Excellent computer skills with various software, including EPIC, Office 365 and Parklane
  • Experience with case management and contact tracing of COVID19 or other communicable disease an asset
  • Ability to facilitate and lead group discussions, and implement feedback into practice
  • As part of a dynamic team of professionals must be flexible team player with the ability to work independently and as a team
