Position Summary:

  • Direct patient care for patients in crisis in the Adult In-Patient Mental Health Units
  • Responsible and accountable for decisions and actions in the provision and management of nursing care for patientsInternal employees who believe they possess the necessary qualifications and experience for this position and who have been in their current position for at least six (6) months are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications:      

  • Graduate of a recognized College or School of Nursing and preferably hold a BSc.N Nursing degree
  • Registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO) or currently meet the eligibility criteria to register in good standing in the Temporary Class or General Class with the CNO.

  • Current In-Patient and/or Out-Patient Mental Health experience required
  • Sound knowledge of mental health disorders, DSM IVR classifications and pertinent legislation
  • Sound knowledge of mental status evaluations, psychosocial assessments, suicide risk assessments, psychiatric history taking, and discharge planning required
  • CNA Mental Health Certification required and/or willingness to complete
  • Effective interpersonal, organizational and clinical skills, with knowledge of evidence based practices in the assessment and treatment of mental health conditions
  • Ability to respond and adapt to rapidly changing priorities
  • Commitment to reflective practice
  • Ability to work collaboratively within a diverse multi-professional team
  • Positive work and attendance record
